Is free agent Donte DiVincenzo headed for a reunion with the Milwaukee Bucks?
USA TODAY Sports

Donte DiVincenzo has opted out of his final year with the Golden State Warriors, making a reunion with the team that drafted him five years ago a possibility.

Reports had it that the former Milwaukee Buck, who signed a two-year deal with the Warriors last summer, declined to opt into the final year of his contract worth $4.7 million.

Thus, DiVincenzo is now a free agent and could be targeted by the Bucks, who badly need to shore up their backcourt.

A familiar name in Milwaukee

DiVincenzo was the Bucks’ 17th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft but missed most of his rookie season due to a foot injury.

DiVincenzo started to make his presence felt in the 2020-21 season, where he averaged 10.4 points while shooting 37 percent from three and 42 percent from the field.

The 6-foot-4 guard was traded to the Sacramento Kings in February 2022 in a deal that saw the arrival of Serge Ibaka in Milwaukee.

That deal turned unproductive for the Bucks as Ibaka only played 35 games and was eventually traded upon his request.

Milwaukee could potentially move Pat Connaughton or Grayson Allen, and DiVincenzo would be a solid replacement.

Milwaukee needs DiVincenzo

Shooting the ball consistently has been the Bucks’ problem, and the former Villanova stalwart could help fix it.

DiVincenzo was a major contributor for the Warriors last season, where he started 36 of the 72 games that played, averaging 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and a team-best 1.3 steals in 26.3 minutes of play per game.

His ability to knock down outside shots makes DiVincenzo an attractive target for the Bucks. Last season, Donte shot 43.5 percent from the field, including a high 39.7 clip from the three-point land.

DiVincenzo’s decision to opt out of his final year came shortly after the Warriors acquired veteran guard Chris Paul.
